About the Department:

Disability Services ensures equitable access to George Mason University's programs and services for qualified students with disabilities. About the Position:

The Disability Services Assistant supports the daily operations of Disability Services by assisting with key student processes, record management, and coordination tasks across the office. This role involves direct staff support, database and form management, and coordination of departmental responsibilities such as presentations and accommodation processes.

Hours: Part-Time (20 to 29 hours per week)

· Regular schedule: Monday through Friday with flexible hours between 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

· During peak times (e.g., start of semester, finals), flexibility may be required.

· Will follow University holiday calendar and closures

Due to the nature of this role and access to confidential student information, this position is not open to current George Mason University students.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the student accommodation request processes, including communication and documentation tracking;
  • Create and process Academic Accommodation Letters (AALs);
  • Update and maintain accurate and timely records;
  • Make routine updates to excel files, reports, and other documents;
  • Responding to inquiries for the department on accommodation-related procedures;
  • Manage the Disability Services presentation schedule and coordinate logistics;
  • Support occasional meetings with note taking; and
  • Support general office projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and database entry;
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and be detail oriented;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; and
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience;
  • Experience working with students with disabilities; and
  • Familiarity with disability-related laws and regulations, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADAAA of 2008, and FERPA.
