About the Department:
The mission of the Department of Computational and Data Sciences (CDS) in the College of Science at George Mason University is threefold: (a) deliver high-quality education in Computational and Data Sciences at the undergraduate and graduate levels through its undergraduate, certificate, masters, and two PhD programs - Computational Science and Informatics (CSI) and Computational Social science (CSS); (b) develop, conduct, and disseminate rigorous cutting-edge externally funded research in a range of application areas in which computational science, data science, modeling, and simulation play a key role. It strives to deliver on its commitment to conducting relevant impactful research through its collaborations with various government and industry partners at the regional and national levels; and (c) in line with the mission of George Mason and the College of Science, the Department is committed to continually engaging with high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as stakeholder communities through research, internship and summer programs, and collaborations both within and outside the university.
About the Position:
The position in the CDS Department is expected to support its efforts to achieve its mission in education, research, and engagement. The successful tenure-track Assistant Professor in this position is expected to: (a) teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, develop new course curriculum, and support the department’s undergraduate, certificate, Master, and two PhD programs; (b) develop an independent competitive research portfolio, and produce research on a regular basis including extramural grant proposals, scientific publications, and presentations; and (c) participate and contribute to service at the department, college, university, and relevant scientific communities/organizations.
