About the Position:

Reporting to the Director of Administration and Operations, the Coordinator of LSEB and Campus Operations serves as the primary point of coordination for the daily operations of the Life Sciences and Engineering Building (LSEB) while providing operational support for the broader Science and Technology Campus. The position exercises delegated operational authority to ensure effective facility operations, service coordination, and customer service in accordance with university and state policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

LSEB Operations

  • Coordinates and manages day-to-day operations of the Life Sciences and Engineering Building, including service coordination, small project support, and operational issue resolution;
  • Serves as the primary operational point of contact for LSEB, interfacing with faculty, staff, principal investigators, students, university support units, contractors, and community partners to ensure high-quality operations and customer service;
  • Coordinates daily operations with LSEB departments and university support services including, but not limited to, Academic Units, University Police, Physical Security, Facilities and Space Management, University Life, Mail and Print Services, RSR/Lab Safety, Parking, Housekeeping, and Information Technology Services;
  • Coordinates with internal and external service providers to ensure services are delivered in compliance with university, state, and contractual requirements;
  • Maintains knowledge of building occupants and uses; provide high-level tours of LSEB highlighting facilities, programs, and research activities;
  • Develops, maintains, and updates standard operating procedures and operational documentation for the facility;
  • Serves as the primary liaison for building-related operational issues; submits and tracks work orders and coordinate service response as needed;
  • Utilizes 25Live and related reports to support operational planning and coordination for activities impacting the facility;
  • Coordinates the use of study and collaboration spaces within LSEB utilizing LibCal; enforce established reservation policies and time parameters, address usage conflicts as needed, and conduct routine visual inspections of spaces to identify conditions requiring follow-up;
  • Serves as the designated liaison for space management coordination within LSEB;
  • Coordinates the receipt and proper storage of deliveries, including materials requiring special handling;
  • Conduct routine inspections of building interiors and surrounding grounds to observe conditions, identify issues, and coordinate follow-up actions;
  • Participates in construction and renovation project meetings in coordination with Facilities project managers;
  • Coordinates building security functions, including access control and security systems, in accordance with established protocols and in collaboration with appropriate university offices;
  • Maintains LSEB communication channels (listservs and Teams) to ensure consistent and accurate information sharing with stakeholders;
  • Serves as a member of the campus Emergency Operations Team and is designated as essential personnel; maintain facility emergency action plans and occupant contact information; assist with incident reporting and post-incident follow-up as required; and
  • Serves as liaison for vending services within LSEB. 

Campus Operations

  • Supports the Director with coordination of daily campus operations and small project support outside of LSEB;
  • Assists with routine inspections of campus buildings and grounds to assess conditions, support service coordination, and identify follow-up needs;
  • Coordinates with internal and external service providers to support campus-wide operations in compliance with university and state requirements;
  • Attends campus operational meetings and committees, and represent the Director when delegated, including Leadership Council, Core Operations, and RSR-related meetings;
  • Assists with development, tracking, and review of the department’s annual operating budget and quarterly submissions;
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned, including researching and supporting enhancements to campus services; assist with RFP processes related to operational services;
  • Maintains knowledge of campus departments and programs; provides high-level campus tours as needed;
  • Serves on university and local committees, representing SciTech Operations and advocating for campus operational needs as delegated; and
  • Supports short- and long-range planning efforts related to facilities, operations, partnerships, and campus initiatives. 

Event Support

  • Collaborated with the Events Team to coordinate and support events within LSEB;
  • Assists with space selection, logistics planning, and event-related tours of facilities;
  • Supports compliance with University Policy 1103 and assist with event safety, policy enforcement, and public liaison functions;
  • Utilizes the university scheduling system (25Live) and generate routine activity reports to inform operational planning and stakeholder awareness;
  • Assists with coordinating auxiliary services for events, including food service, parking, transportation, security, and housekeeping; and
  • Supports strategies to maximize effective use of instructional and event spaces while promoting collaboration and appropriate revenue-generating opportunities.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Performs additional duties and prepare reports as assigned in support of the Director and SciTech Campus. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in operations, facilities management, or campus-based operations;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with office productivity software and email applications;
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and work independently within established guidelines;
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex operational issues with minimal supervision; and
  • Valid driver's license: must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FMP or other facility operational certifications;
  • Experience within a higher education environment, including familiarity with support services, customer service principles, and public-facing operations; and
  • Knowledge of university operations, facilities management, and institutional policies and procedures.
