About the Department:

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as master’s degrees in Telecommunications and Digital Forensics. The department is home to over 30 faculty members and close to 880 students, including about 290 graduate students pursuing degrees. Our research portfolio is thriving, with faculty actively engaged in research in a diverse range of fields such as bioengineering, communications and networking, computer engineering, controls and robotics, cyber-physical systems, cyber security, digital forensics, nanoelectronics, power systems, signal processing, and space-based systems. The ECE department also supports other Mason Engineering programs through interdisciplinary collaboration in both education and research and has close ties with other departments such as the Departments of Bioengineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security Engineering, Information Sciences and Technology, Mechanical Engineering and System Engineering.

Projects and hands-on activities are at the core of many of our educational programs where interdisciplinary projects and courses are highly integrated into the curriculum. Thousands of students have graduated from our department’s accredited programs and gone on to prosperous careers in engineering and related fields. The department has close collaborations with the industry and receives strategic direction and insight on cutting edge technologies from its company partners and industrial advisory board that translate into innovative curricular and research initiatives. About the Position:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites applications for one or more tenure-track or tenured power faculty positions beginning fall 2024. Senior candidates with established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching will be eligible for tenured associate professor or professor positions.

To develop a program of scholarly research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, participating in university, college and departmental governance, professional and public service, and perform related instructional assignments such as supervising senior projects, student internships and practicum.

Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; develop an independent, externally funded research program; advise students; participate in all aspects of the department’s mission; and serve the profession.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have received a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field by the start date of the position, and should have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants in all areas of Power and Energy Systems will be given serious consideration. We are particularly interested in candidates in the area of Power Electronics. Candidates who can build collaborations with other departments within the College and across the University will benefit from the strong support and encouragement for interdisciplinary collaboration with the College and the University. About the College

The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at George Mason University is a fast-growing force for innovation in research and education. In 2025, Fuse a new 355,000 square foot building, will open to students, faculty, and research teams. This net-zero facility will house the Institute for Digital Innovation, state-of the-art classrooms, labs, and collaborative spaces. These initiatives reflect hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment by Mason that will rapidly elevate the university’s already leading national position in computing and related areas.
