About the Department:

In collaboration with the George Mason University community, and as a part of the Office of the Provost, the Division for Enrollment Management optimizes student recruitment and retention by developing and implementing strategic enrollment plans, overseeing the admissions process, providing financial aid services, and managing the Mason Student Services Center—a centralized student services resource. The Division’s activities support the achievement of institutional enrollment goals by placing the student (and family) at the center of our work, supporting a culture of transparency, and leveraging data to inform decision-making.

The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollment of freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students in alignment with the University's strategic plan, ensuring a diverse and successful student body that contributes to the institution's excellence and global impact.

About the Position:

The International Credential Specialist evaluates and processes international student credentials. Provides reports on the international credential process to campus constituents.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates international credentials for graduate students and assists with undergraduate and faculty evaluations, as needed;
  • Maintains ongoing and increased proficiency in international credential standards;
  • Stays up to date on evaluation standards and best practices in credential evaluation;
  • Researches new trends and developments in worldwide education systems;
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external evaluation agencies, and ensures they are accurately and thoroughly meeting expectations;
  • Trains wage and non-wage employees in post-secondary credential evaluation;
  • Reviews international institutions for accreditation and recognition in country of origin and provides advisory and administrative support for other campus departments;
  • Accurately and securely tracks receipt, evaluation, and dissemination of credentials for evaluation;
  • Provides graduate units and other offices on campus with accurate and timely evaluations and information on post-secondary institutions;
  • Coordinates communication and ongoing contact with admissions representatives in various campus units;
  • Serves as the primary contact across campus and to external agencies for international post-secondary credential evaluation;
  • Produces period reports to supervisor and graduate units regarding evaluation statistics; and
  • Tracks and maintains regular detailed reports on evaluation statistics for both internal and external evaluation systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Data entry experience;
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment often working on multiple tasks concurrently;
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information and situations;
  • Proficient with technology and able to learn new systems;
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment; and
  • Available for evening and weekend work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous admissions experience;
  • Experience with international credential evaluation; and
  • Bilingual.
