About the Position:

The Assistant Director of Well-Being Programs in the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being serves the campus community through well-being programs and resources specifically targeted to student populations and assisting with initiatives for faculty and staff. Reporting to the Director of Well-Being Programs, the Assistant Director takes a lead role in creating and sustaining collaborations and partnerships with a wide range of departments and units across the university.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs, manages, and delivers well-being programs, resources, and learning experiences for graduate and undergraduate students throughout the year, with an emphasis on fall and spring semester programming, to include an annual welcome event;
  • Develops programming grounded in the science of well-being, utilizing an inclusive approach to engage and appeal to the university’s diverse campus community;
  • Coordinates well-being student outreach in collaboration with communications and marketing team members;
  • Collaborates with university partners (e.g., Center for Leadership and Intercultural Engagement, Mason Recreation, Student Health Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, Student Support and Advocacy, Contemporary Student Services, Student Involvement, and Office of International Programs and Services) in the design and delivery of well-being programs and resources for students, faculty, and staff;
  • Represents CWB on the New Student and Family Programs Stakeholders group and ensures representation of CWB at tabling events, including all summer and winter orientations and the two big Admissions events (Fall Premiere and Spring Preview); 
  • Works with the Executive Director, Director of Well-Being Programs, and other CWB staff to design, implement, and lead university-wide well-being initiatives and plans departmental strategic direction, programs and initiatives;
  • Manages well-being needs assessment activities and contributes to departmental assessment and data reporting activities; and
  • Co-leads the campus-wide Mason Chooses Kindness initiative to include co-leading regular meetings, organizing retreats, managing the annual Ambassador nomination and recognition process, leading efforts for World Kindness Day and Intentional Kindness Day, and managing ongoing communication to all stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience working in higher education;
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in diverse settings and tailoring programs for diverse groups;
  • Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs;
  • Experience in developing collaborative relationships in a higher education setting;
  • Knowledge of the science of well-being from theoretical and practical perspectives;
  • Knowledge of lived experiences approaches and their connections to well-being;
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate programs;
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships in a higher education setting;
  • Ability to function independently and collaboratively as a team member and to lead teams;
  • Effective program planning and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in software such as Canva, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite; and
  • Proficiency in social media platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in higher education, typically obtained in 3+ years;
  • Experience in well-being programming and education, typically obtained in 3+ years;
  • Creative, flexible, and resourceful with ability to contribute positively in a team setting and work with diverse groups;
  • Knowledgeable about assessment strategies and ability to develop and evaluate program outcomes; and
  • Demonstrated skillset in coordinating university-wide initiatives and programs.
