About the Department:

The Office of the Provost champions an inclusive university community devoted to academic excellence, consequential research and scholarship, and innovative practices that inspire, engage, and transform lives. The Office of the Provost is charged with overseeing all aspects of education, research, and public engagement of the university. The Provost has direct oversight over all colleges, schools, and academic support units. Additionally, in conjunction with senior administration of the university, the Provost is responsible for the allocation of resources for academic programs and functions. Supporting the Provost in these efforts is the Academic Administration team which is devoted to sustaining George Mason University’s mission.

The Academic Administration team provides leadership and strategic guidance through resource allocation and alignment, business analyses, modeling, project management, partnership development, and communications. The Office also manages the administrative, budget, and personnel operations for the Office of the Provost and the offices for which it has direct oversight.

About the Position:

The Program Associate supports Mason Korea (MK) initiatives and programs, including, but not limited to, study abroad, Fairfax faculty relocation, MK boards (LLC and Audit/Finance), and other related duties to furthering the goals of MK.

This position is expected to work flexible hours to meet with students/faculty/staff across time zones, to include time outside of traditional hours, including weekends.

Responsibilities:

Study Abroad:

  • Supports transition of Fairfax students studying at MK for one or more semesters to include responsibility for developing and delivering information sessions for prospective students, processing applications, communicating and coordinating with relevant stakeholders (MK University Life, Financial Aid, etc.), designing and conducting MK welcome orientation, and conducting visa workshops. 

Faculty Transition:

  • Maintains and updates transition-related materials (e.g. informational PowerPoints), schedules meetings with faculty, processes payment reimbursements, and performs other related administrative duties as needed for faculty relocation.

MK Boards (LLC & Audit/Finance):

  • Attends and schedules board meetings, assists with drafting of minutes, and other administrative duties related to MK boards.

MK Marketing:

  • Coordinates marketing initiatives, creates marketing materials/flyers, and manages MK website; and
  • Plans MK recruitment events and represents MK at fairs and other promotional events. 

Performs other MK-related duties as assigned, including managing calendars. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Korean studies, international education or other related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience;
  • Demonstrated experience working independently with minimal direction;
  • Experience working with college-age students and/or faculty (typically one or more years);
  • Experience working in international education, with a focus on students and/or faculty (typically one or more years);
  • Experience with graphic design tools (i.e. Canvas) to create internal and external marketing materials to promote MK;
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with multiple campus partners (students, faculty, parents, senior leadership, community-at-large, including embassy dignitaries);
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with willingness and demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, including long and short-term projects;
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion; and
  • Interest in international education/higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 
  • Experience working in higher education, with a focus on international education and study abroad and/or South Korea (typically two or more years);
  • Experience working with faculty and senior leadership;
  • Experience living or studying abroad in South Korea;
  • Experience working at a college or university;
  • Experience with event planning/marketing/PR;
  • Experience working with embassies;
  • Conversant Korean (written and oral); and
  • Demonstrated interest in international education with a focus on South Korea and/or international branch campuses.
