About the Department:

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is an innovative, inclusive, and cutting-edge college that successfully prepares professionals to promote learning and development across the life span while contributing meaningfully to research in human and organizational performance as well as in the learning and developmental sciences. About the Position:

The Assistant Professor of Education in Qualitative Research Methodology will primarily serve the PhD in Education Program teaching a 2-2 load, mentoring doctoral students, serving as methodologist on doctoral dissertation committees and supporting faculty research grants with methodological expertise.

Responsibilities:

Instructional

  • Teaches courses at the graduate level in all course modalities (in-person, online) as assigned; and
  • Develops new courses in area of expertise, and supports teaching activities across graduate programs in the unit. 

Research 

  • Pursues research program and external funding, contributes to collaborative research efforts, and supports faculty research grants with methodological expertise.

College Service Activities 

  • Mentors doctoral students;
  • Serves as methodologist on doctoral dissertation committees;
  • Supports graduate academic advising and career development; and
  • Supports units efforts to grow and promotes the unit and its programs. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Must hold a doctorate in education or a closely related field, with a specialization in qualitative research methodology;
  • Strong potential, or an established record, of outstanding university teaching. Evidence of a record of teaching and/or engaging diverse student populations as instructor of record or as a teaching assistant;
  • Skills in curriculum development, innovative instructional methods, and use of technology in the classroom are essential as well as experience in multiple teaching modalities including face-to-face, online, and/or blended formats;
  • Evidence of a strong record of scholarly research that advances qualitative research methodology, including peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations, commensurate with experience level;
  • Evidence or strong potential for seeking and attracting external funding. This may include success with small-scale proposals, support of other faculty's work in seeking funding, training and preparation related to seeking funding, and research in high interest areas for funding sources;
  • Must exhibit a commitment to academic advising and mentorship (e.g., guiding students through dissertation research); and
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a wide variety of qualitative methodological skills such as narrative inquiry, phenomenology, and grounded theory;
  • Applied qualitative work in any area of educational expertise;
  • Active involvement in professional organizations related to qualitative methodologies;
  • Experience with a broad range of qualitative methods;
  • Experience supervising graduate students and contributing to departmental and institutional initiatives;
  • Evidence of supervision of student research projects, theses and/or dissertations;
  • Prior involvement in professional organizations and a history of fostering collaborative research projects and community partnerships that demonstrates the ability to contribute to the broader academic and professional community;
  • Record of successful external grant submissions; and
  • Record of professional involvement in national and international professional associations.
