About the Department:

In collaboration with the George Mason University community, and as a part of the Office of the Provost, the Division for Enrollment Management optimizes student recruitment and retention by developing and implementing strategic enrollment plans, overseeing the admissions process, providing financial aid services, and managing the Mason Student Services Center—a centralized student services resource. The Division’s activities support the achievement of institutional enrollment goals by placing the student (and family) at the center of our work, supporting a culture of transparency, and leveraging data to inform decision-making.

The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollment of freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students in alignment with the University's strategic plan, ensuring a diverse and successful student body that contributes to the institution's excellence and global impact.

About the Position:

The Event Coordinator assists in the implementation of plans for the Office of Admissions recruitment events and for the Washington Scholars Program (WSP) conferences. Acts as a liaison to internal and off-campus vendors and admissions resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementing plans for all on-campus events;
  • Coordinates all admissions recruitment and large-scale yield events working with the campus community and external vendors;
  • Successfully attends to and completes all projects dealing with events in a timely and reasonable fashion with the highest degree of professionalism; 
  • Manages digital inventory including maintaining standard operating procedures, project plans, and organization of SharePoint files;
  • Manages physical inventory of signage, supplies, etc. in multiple locations;
  • Orders supplies and materials following university purchasing procedures while remaining within budget; and
  • Executes other event planning duties as assigned, including planning events for counselors, educators, and/or special populations. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Some experience in events planning, either professionally or on a volunteer basis;
  • Proficiency using technology with the ability to learn new systems;
  • Demonstrated listening and comprehension skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to perform work with substantial attention to detail;
  • Ability to listen to instructions carefully and follow directions correctly;
  • Ability to learn processes and procedures quickly; 
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations;
  • Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review;
  • Required to reside on campus for three weeks during the summer to manage logistics for the Washington Scholars Program; and
  • Expected to work a full day on the day before and the day of each major event, which includes some weekends, as well as week-of preparations including several evening work hours and physical labor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field;
  • Familiar with Mason's physical campus and surrounding area;
  • Familiar with Mason's diverse population, admissions processes, campus offerings for students, and campus events; and
  • Bilingual.
