About the Position:

Under general supervision of the Department Chair, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be engaged in research and teaching, enhancing both areas of the departmental portfolio. Core responsibilities include interactions with faculty, graduate and undergraduate students inside and outside of the classroom, carrying out collaborative research projects and disseminating the results within scientific community through conference presentations and publications in leading mathematics journals. The position includes opportunities to mentor undergraduate research assistants, share expertise in collaborative research discussions, develop new courses and engage with a vibrant academic community focused on improving research outcomes and undergraduate mathematics education.

This position fosters a dynamic environment for professional growth, offering unique opportunities for leadership development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and significant scholarly contributions.

The appointment begins in the Fall Semester 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts independent research;
  • Prepares results for publication;
  • Presents results at national and international conferences;
  • Teaches one class at the undergraduate or graduate level; and
  • Engages in mentoring and outreach activities. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Relevant research experience either through PhD work or through other research projects;
  • Knowledge of mathematics that complements current strengths of the department;
  • Knowledge of conducting independent research in mathematics;
  • Skilled at teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level;
  • Ability to navigate scientific publishing processes;
  • Ability to write, speak, and listen to communicate effectively;
  • Ability to work as an effective team member;
  • English proficiency;
  • Ability to read and comprehend relevant scientific literature; and
  • Ability to use sound judgment to effectively solve problems within the scope of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to applicants in areas of applied and pure mathematics who employ computational approaches in their research;
  • Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests align with those of the department and who have expertise in one or more areas of mathematics that complements current strengths of the department; and
  • Preference will be given to applicants able to facilitate effective team work, manage day-to-day operations within the workplace, and interested in pursuing leadership opportunities.
