About the Department:

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) is an innovative, inclusive, and cutting-edge college that successfully prepares professionals to promote learning and development across the life span while contributing meaningfully to research in human and organizational performance as well as in the learning and developmental sciences. The college, with nearly 130 full-time faculty members, more than 300 part-time faculty members and nine academic divisions offers 27 academic programs, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, across its three schools, the School of Education, the School of Kinesiology and the School of Sport, Recreation, and Tourism Management. About the Position:

Tenure-line faculty are expected to maintain an active line of research and external funding and provide expertise and scholarly leadership in an area related to high incidence disabilities, with an emphasis on bridging research and practice. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching general curriculum undergraduate and graduate-level special education courses during the day and in the evening both face-to-face and online, supervising student field work, practicum and internship experiences, participating in curriculum and accreditation activities to enhance the student learning experience, engaging with faculty and staff colleagues to advance program initiatives, supporting adjunct faculty, and participating in service at the division and college level.

Responsibilities:

Teaching 

  • Teaches general curriculum undergraduate and graduate-level special education courses during the day and in the evening both face-to-face and online;
  • Supervises student field work, practicum and internship experiences; and
  • Participates in curriculum and accreditation activities to enhance the student learning experience.

Research 

  • Maintains an active line of research and external funding; and
  • Provides expertise and scholarly leadership in an area related to high incidence disabilities, with an emphasis on bridging research and practice.

College Service Responsibilities 

  • Engages with faculty and staff colleagues to advance program initiatives;
  • Supports adjunct faculty; and
  • Participates in service at the division and college level.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Special Education from an accredited institution with a dissertation emphasis specific to students with high incidence disabilities;
  • Publication record reflective of research in support of students with high incidence disabilities and demonstrated efforts to obtain funding in support of research and/or training initiatives;
  • Demonstrated efforts to obtain funding in support of research and/or training initiatives;
  • Minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience in high incidence disabilities is required as is alignment with the college’s core values focused on diversity, collaboration, and innovation; and
  • Demonstrated instructional versatility specific to students with high incidence disabilities in such areas as research, teaching methods and curriculum, assessment, transition, and collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching license in special education, with specialization in high incidence/mild to moderate disabilities;
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in higher education;
  • Expertise in math methods and/or assessment practices;
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in higher education as well as the ability; and
  • Willingness to use technology effectively to deliver instruction and manage multiple tasks in a highly organized manner.
