About the Department:

In collaboration with the George Mason University community, and as a part of the Office of the Provost, the Division for Enrollment Management optimizes student recruitment and retention by developing and implementing strategic enrollment plans, overseeing the admissions process, providing financial aid services, and managing the Mason Student Services Center—a centralized student services resource. The Division’s activities support the achievement of institutional enrollment goals by placing the student (and family) at the center of our work, supporting a culture of transparency, and leveraging data to inform decision-making.

The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollment of freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students in alignment with the university's strategic plan, ensuring a diverse and successful student body that contributes to the institution's excellence and global impact.

About the Position:

The K12 Coordinator coordinates and executes all kindergarten through 8th grade tour groups, as well as special College Access groups for the Office of Admissions. Assists in the Envision partnership by reviewing marketing materials and documenting all processes within the Envision relationship. Assists in the Envision application process and enrollment. Coordinates and processes dual enrollment applications. Reads and processes all The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) applications. Works with the K12 team to support the Washington Scholars Program (WSP) and the Freshman Admissions team.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates George Mason's K-12 Access Tour Program and conducts outreach presentations in the community:
    • Recruits, supervises, and evaluates the Admissions Outreach Fellows;
    • Communicates with schools, schedules visits, works with K-12, freshman admissions, and other outreach groups on campus to organize logistics and conducts information sessions, as appropriate;
    • Serves as a liaison with campus access organizations;
    • Contributes creatively to development of K-12 presentation materials and formats; and
    • Coordinates evaluation of group tour program.
  • Assists with overall Envision partnership including application and enrollment processes:
    • Coordinates with colleagues to complete enrollment process;
    • Creates accurate and well written communication material and ensures successful delivery to desired audience to increase application and enrollment completion;
    • Develops tools to show effectiveness of communication; and
    • Provides support to Envision students when they are on-campus.
  • Manages the admissions and enrollment processes to George Mason University's The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) Program during fall, spring, and summer enrollment periods:
    • Reviews and evaluates all TFAS student admission applications;
    • Coordinates with various enrollment services offices within George Mason University;
    • Coordinates with Mason's College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics Department, and The Fund for American Studies, as needed;
    • Stays up to date on all TFAS recruitment and marketing materials, and serves as point of contact and resource on all application questions and concerns;
    • Stays up to date and reports enrollment levels and ensures they are appropriate to program needs and expectations, and ensures enrolled students receive appropriate communications;
    • Handles an entire caseload of TFAS applicant files;
    • Enters decisions in student database;
    • Notifies supervisor and collaborates with internal and external partners regarding admission policies and difficult cases; and
    • Successfully develops and maintains positive working relationships with these departments/organizations in order to ensure smooth enrollment in and awarding of student credit for TFAS programs, including overseeing the successful transition of data.
  • Assists in the admission, enrollment, and accreditation process for credit-bearing programs for high school students including, Fairfax Math, Loudoun County Science, and Envision:
    • Supports processes and effectively communicates with partner programs.
  • Reads undergraduate applications and recruits in designated areas;
  • Participates in file committees and attends necessary trainings and conferences; 
  • Provides administrative support to the Washington Scholars Program (WSP); answers phones, calls participants and parents for information, assists with social media and communication, etc.; and
  • Actively participates in Admissions events.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Demonstrated public speaking experience;
  • Experience providing excellent customer service to a variety of audiences;
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent listening and comprehension skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Proficient in the use of related technology with willingness and ability to learn new systems, processes, and procedures quickly;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment often working on multiple tasks concurrently;
  • Ability to problem solve and think quickly and creatively;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Ability to perform work with substantial attention to detail;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; and
  • Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator’s license that meets all of GMU’s requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason’s Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver’s licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in education;
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner;
  • Experience with Salesforce Customer Relationship Management (CRM);
  • Experience working with diverse populations;
  • Knowledge of enrollment practices for student programming at the secondary and/or post-secondary level;
  • Familiarity with Mason's physical campus and surrounding area;
  • Familiarity with Mason's diverse population, admissions processes, campus offerings for students, and campus events; and
  • Bilingual.
