About the Position:

The Strategic Engagement and Communications team in the Office of the Provost is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Communications Specialist to join our team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in communications and will be comfortable using various tools to create engaging content and support organizational communications efforts. This role requires experience in creating email newsletters and presentations, drafting talking points, articles, and business communications, and working in Teams and Sharepoint. The successful candidate will be self-driven, detail-oriented, anticipate the needs of the team, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, format, and distribute email newsletters using email marketing software (e.g., MyEmma);
  • Create PowerPoint presentations for executive and other stakeholders;
  • Write and edit talking points, articles, emails, and other business communications;
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure communications are aligned with organizational goals and messaging;
  • Manage SharePoint and Teams sites, including setting up new pages, managing files and content, and ensuring proper access and usability;
  • Assist in anticipating the communication needs of the team and proactively preparing materials; and
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Some professional experience ( typically minimum of 2 years) in communications, marketing, or public relations roles;
  • Proficiency with email software tools (e.g., My Emma, MailChimp, Constant Contact);
  • Demonstrated experience in PowerPoint, with an ability to create polished and professional presentations;
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills for talking points, articles, newsletters, and business communications;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and anticipate the needs of the team; and
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SharePoint, including experience in setting up and managing SharePoint sites; and
  • Experience in higher education.
