About the Position:

George Mason University's dynamic Human Resources team is looking for a passionate and innovative Faculty and Staff Engagement Assistant. This role is a key contributor to our people and culture strategy, where you will be responsible for administering and promoting our reward, recognition, and other engagement initiatives to foster faculty and staff success.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees formal and informal reward and recognition programs, processes reward and recognition requests, and maintains information databases relevant to rewards and recognition programs.
  • Leads or assists with scheduling and planning of team and university-wide events.
  • Provides administrative support to performance evaluation, engagement, and flexible work processes.
  • Schedules faculty/staff development programming in the Learning, Evaluation, and Performance System (LEAPS).
  • Prepares marketing and supplemental materials for faculty/staff engagement events and programming; and
  • Manages one or more shared email boxes for the Faculty and Staff Engagement team.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 - 3 years of administrative support experience;
  • Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating effectively with individuals of various levels and needs;
  • Experience supporting projects from start to finish, demonstrating an ability to track deliverables and assist a team in achieving its goals;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks and objectives;
  • Ability to build trust, handle sensitive information with discretion, and foster a supportive environment; and
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, Teams). 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an HR department, providing a foundational understanding of concepts like employee engagement, performance management, and recognition;
  • Direct experience scheduling, coordinating, or assisting with events, from small team meetings to larger functions;
  • Understanding of the unique environment and culture of a university and the dynamics of working with both faculty and staff; and
  • Proficiency with creating marketing materials in Canva.
